IS A DONATION OF SOCKS REQUIRED FOR SHRED SERVICE?
No, donations are not required for shredding your documents, but all donations are appreciated! If you can donate, please bring a pair or pairs of gently used or new socks. (Adult crew socks are recommended.) All sock donations will be distributed through PAXTON'S BLESSING BOX to those in need in our community.
Why did the event move locations?
Due to the growing popularity of Shred Day, and with the safety of our members, staff, and volunteers in mind, we've partnered with the Wichita Art Museum for Shred Day West. The location is approximately two miles from our West Office, and they offer a much larger area to accommodate the traffic of those coming to our free Shred Day event. And remember, Saturdays are always FREE ADMISSION at the Wichita Art Museum! Visit their website for more information: Wichita Art Museum.
WHERE DO I GO?
Entrance to the Shred Day event will be from the Museum Blvd. side. Please follow the signs to the entry point.
WHAT CAN I BRING?
You can bring up to 3 regular-sized boxes of personal documents that will be shredded for free. And don't forget to bring sock donations!
Shredding service is provided by Underground Vaults and Storage (UVS). UVS is NAID AAA Certified for destruction services, so you can feel confident your information will remain secure.
Please follow the signs and lanes of traffic. Please stay in your cars for safety. We will remove the paper from your vehicle, which will be shredded onsite. (If the shred truck reaches capacity, a second truck will be onsite to transport the documents to the UVS facility for shredding securely. If this happens, we will notify you BEFORE accepting your documents to shred.)
Shredding documents with sensitive information is a great way to protect your identity. Here are some additional positive steps to take which will decrease your risk:
Don't give out your Social Security Number unnecessarily (only for tax reasons, credit, or to verify employment.) Before providing personal identifiers, know how they will be used and if they will be shared.
Know your billing cycles and contact creditors when bills fail to arrive in the mail. Review account and credit card statements carefully.
Don't give out personal information on the phone, through the mail, or over the Internet unless you initiated the contact.
