ABOUT US
You come first at Wichita Federal Credit Union.
When you become a Wichita Federal Credit Union (WFCU) member, you're not just an account number. WFCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative, meaning all our members are also owners. Our members-first philosophy has served us well over the years. Wichita Municipal Federal Credit Union (WMFCU) was chartered in May 1940 to serve the municipal employees of the City of Wichita, including the Police, Fire, and Emergency Services departments. WFCU operates a branch located inside City Hall and maintains deep ties with many departments. In 2006, WMFCU became Wichita Federal Credit Union (WFCU) and opened membership, welcoming anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Sedgwick County, Kansas, to become a member. In 2025, WFCU opened the field of membership to include Butler, Cowley, Harvey, Sedgwick, and Sumner Counties. Since 1940, WFCU has grown to serve more than 15,000 members in Sedgwick County and manage over $210 million in assets. #Not-for-Profit, For Members. What is a Credit Union?
Think of a credit union as a financial institution, just like a bank. However, there's a key difference: credit unions are not-for-profit, financial cooperatives owned and operated by their members. The credit union philosophy is “people helping people.”
Credit unions offer many of the same services as banks. But the cool part is, because credit unions are not-for-profit, they often provide these services at lower costs in the form of lower fees and better interest rates.
When it comes to community, credit unions are deeply rooted. They're not a faceless corporation headquartered in big cities – they're right there in your neighborhood, serving the people who live and work nearby.
Other benefits include Local Decision Making, Free Financial Education, Community Investments, and Personalized Service.
