When you become a Wichita Federal Credit Union (WFCU) member, you're not just an account number. WFCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative, meaning all our members are also owners. Our members-first philosophy has served us well over the years.  Wichita Municipal Federal Credit Union (WMFCU) was chartered in May 1940 to serve Wichita’s municipal employees, including Police, Fire, and Public Works departments. WFCU operates a branch located inside City Hall and maintains deep ties with many departments.

In 2006, WMFCU became Wichita Federal Credit Union (WFCU) and opened membership to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Sedgwick County, Kansas. In 2025, WFCU opened the field of membership to include Butler, Cowley, Harvey, Sedgwick, and Sumner Counties. WFCU recently merged with Freedom 1st Federal Credit Union, which is now known as Wichita Federal Credit Union, located on McConnell Air Force Base. Since 1940, WFCU has grown to serve more than 18,000 members and manage over 4 million in assets.
